Custom carpentry is what Gray & Sons is known for. Built-ins, custom trim, crown molding, desks, cabinetry, and whole remodels, built by hand by a family that has been working on Southern Maryland homes for nearly 50 years. Free written estimate before we start.
Gray & Sons has been building in Southern Maryland since 1976, and custom carpentry has been the heart of the business ever since. Gray & Sons Contracting is still a family business: the same family that measures your space builds the piece, and our electrician handles any wiring the project needs, with permits pulled in-house. From a single built-in to a full remodel, here's what we build for homeowners across Calvert, St. Mary's, and Charles County.
Baseboards, casing, chair rail, and door and window trim installed with tight miters and clean reveals. This is the work that reads as quality the moment you walk in, and it's where sloppy corners show, so we take the time to scribe to walls that are never perfectly square.
Crown molding installation across Maryland is some of our favorite work: single-piece or built-up crown, coffered detail, wainscoting, board-and-batten, and picture-frame paneling that give a room architecture it never had. Coped inside corners and seamless scarf joints, not caulk-filled gaps.
Bookcases, window seats, entertainment centers, mudroom lockers, and closet systems built to your dimensions and scribed to your walls so they look original to the house. As a built-in shelving contractor, we deliver paint- or stain-ready storage that fits your space exactly.
New interior doors, pre-hung or slab, hung plumb and swinging true, plus knobs, hinges, and closet and barn-door hardware set correctly. We fix the sticking, rubbing, and latching problems that come with a settling home.
Interior framing for new walls and openings, plus structural repairs to rotted joists, sills, and headers. Square, level, and built to carry the load, the foundation every finish depends on.
The running punch list every home accumulates: damaged trim, loose railings, squeaky stairs, sagging gates, and the dozen small fixes you've been meaning to get to. One visit, knocked out, no job too small.
Crown molding typically runs about $8 to $15 per linear foot installed, and custom built-ins generally start around $1,500 and climb with size and detail. Small trim repairs and door installs are often a few hundred dollars. Four things drive the number most: the profile and material you choose (paint-grade MDF costs less than stain-grade hardwood), the number of corners and seams the run requires, ceiling height and access, and how far the existing walls and openings are out of square, the more a room has settled, the more scribing and fitting the job takes. We measure the actual space and quote it in writing.
Good carpentry is what separates a finished home from an unfinished one, and it's usually far cheaper than a full remodel to get there.
We work in paint-grade MDF and poplar for crisp painted trim, solid hardwoods like oak and maple for stain-grade work, and quality pre-hung interior doors and hardware from trusted manufacturers. Fasteners, glue, and finish-grade lumber are matched to the job so joints stay tight and the work holds up to a Maryland home's seasonal movement. When a built-in or paneling detail calls for it, we mill and assemble custom to fit your space rather than forcing a stock size.
We handle carpentry and trim throughout Calvert, St. Mary's, and Charles County across Southern Maryland, including Prince Frederick, Solomons, Lusby, Huntingtown, Dunkirk, Owings, St. Leonard, Leonardtown, California, Lexington Park, Hollywood, Waldorf, and La Plata. See our full service area.
No job too small, and no project too far along. Because we're a full home improvement company, the same crew that runs your crown molding can handle the larger interior remodel around it, build the deck out back, and set the trim that our painting and drywall team then finishes. One contractor, one standard of work, across the whole punch list.
